Job description

The School of Pharmacy is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Fellow in Pharmacy. The successful candidate will be an active member of the Larrañeta research group, with the goal of conducting hypothesis-driven research and developing as an outstanding research scientist, while placing an emphasis on personal and scientific integrity. This position will involve establishing a novel implantable medical device for use in combination with radiotherapy. This multi-disciplinary project, funded by Prostate Cancer UK, spans the fields of pharmaceutical engineering, radiobiology and medical device development, with the successful candidate responsible for preparing, optimising and characterising the physical properties of the implantable medical device.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Have or about to obtain a PhD in pharmacy, pharmaceutical Sciences, biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering or related discipline
  • 3 years recent relevant research experience in drug delivery systems and/or medical device preparation and characterisation
  • Relevant experience on the development and characterisation of medical devices.
  • Previous experience working with nanoparticles.
  • Competency in use of analytical techniques including: HPLC, FTIR and thermal analysis.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies
  • Experience in preparation, often in consultation with supervisor, of material for IP protection, publication and presentations at national/international conferences.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
