About the opportunity

As a Metadata Services Librarian, you will provide specialist skills for describing unique or complex resources created and/or managed by the Library (electronic, print, digital and data) using standard metadata schemas, including MARC, RDA and Dublin Core to ensure resource discoverability and access irrespective of location, media or form. This includes developing strategies and procedures to ensure information resources are described accurately and accessible to library clients across the Library Services Platform, institutional repository and Digital Asset Management system. You will have expert knowledge of library systems, as well as tools and applications for data manipulation. You will closely liaise with vendors to manage the quality assurance of out-sourced record creation.

The Metadata Services Librarian operates in a dynamic environment. Changes to technology, media, form and delivery of information resources may require review of duties and role.

  • understanding of current and emerging metadata, cataloguing and resource description standards, such as BIBFRAME and Linked Data
  • experience in creating, editing and transforming MARC and/or non-MARC metadata
  • experience in working with library or repository systems
  • evidence of sharing expertise and best practices in technology with others and sponsoring of the development of new technology related ideas and/or procedures that improve the user experience
  • ability to actively contribute to the development of team goals, assist team members and to take the lead on tasks involving team members when required
  • the ability to maintain skills, knowledge and experience to innovate practices, processes and/or procedures at work
  • proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients ensuring that clients' needs are met and excellent written and verbal communication and analytical skills
  • project management experience with the ability to maintain attention to detail and to meet deadlines, including the ability to efficiently manage resources and improve the quality of work including coordinating activities, facilities and/or resources.

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
