The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) is a vibrant conservatoire-style school within Edith Cowan University. WAAPA offers training across all areas of the performing arts including Music, Music Theatre, Acting, Performance-making, Aboriginal Performance, and Dance as well as Production & Design and Arts Management. Our Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) course provides graduates with the skills and experience to pursue sustainable, diverse careers in the performing arts:
- The Performance Making major provides students with intensive practical training in acting, movement, voice and devising, alongside an exciting suite of electives such as playwriting, puppetry and acting for camera. There is an emphasis on the creation of original contemporary theatre and performance and the course aims to produce the future leaders, innovators and change-makers in the performing arts. Entry is by competitive audition.
- The Practice Transition major provides a pathway for mature students with existing skills training and industry experience who wish to upgrade their qualifications to a Bachelor level through an exciting suite of independent projects and elective units in their field of interest. A suite of core units shared across all majors include Australian Theatre; Research & Writing for the Performing Arts; Creativity & Collaboration and Arts Management.
WAAPA is seeking applicants with relevant experience to join our team as Lecturer and Course Coordinator for the Bachelor of Performing Arts course. The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and administration of the course. Providing leadership to a team of ongoing and sessional staff you will develop and deliver high quality, research-informed curriculum that is aligned with industry expectations and the vision, values and policies of WAAPA at ECU.
We are keen to hear from candidates with skills in any one or more of these priority areas:
- Directing, devising or writing for theatre and performance;
A team of dedicated sessional and ongoing staff provide teaching in other areas.
The successful candidate will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications, ideally PhD but a minimum of Masters level or equivalent professional industry experience.
- A track record of teaching experience and developing curriculum, ideally at tertiary level;
- Excellent demonstrable skills and a track record of relevant professional experience in their discipline;
- Strong communication and administration skills;
- Ability to work in a team;
- Personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry and Personal Excellence.
Benefits & Remuneration
This full time, ongoing position attract remuneration of $102,253 to $120,814 pa (ALEVB) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
