The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice-Dean & Director Dentistry.

The Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University is a public, urban medical and dental school that serves the people of Southwestern Ontario. As one of two dental schools in Ontario, and one of ten in Canada, the School's mission is to provide medical and dental pre-and post-doctoral education programs. Schulich Dentistry provides dental pre-and post-doctoral education programs (Undergraduate and Graduate programs) and prepares qualified graduates to provide dental care as well as generate knowledge through clinical research, basic science research, and other scholarly activity. Oral healthcare to the public is provided through the School’s on-site clinics, through placement of residents with London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Healthcare London, and through community outreach programs. Schulich Dentistry is comprised of seven academic divisions and structured into three major operational areas – administration, clinics and educational programs. As a member of the Schulich Vice-Decanal leadership team, you will be the senior faculty member who is the administrative head responsible for all aspects of Schulich Dentistry, including educational, clinical, and research deliverables. You will strive for excellence in all aspects of education, clinical care, and research within Schulich Dentistry. This will be accomplished by leading and modeling a collaborative working partnership amongst Schulich Medicine & Dentistry decanal leaders and the dental leadership. As Vice-Dean & Director, you will effectively direct Schulich Dentistry’s available resources, personnel, and technology to ensure programs are properly prepared, aligned, and focused to optimize the education experience for all students, residents, and fellows alike. You shall be responsible for the maintenance of an appropriate academic administrative structure and the development of overall academic goals, objectives, and metrics of success. Moreover, you will be responsible for ensuring the exemplary quality of care for dental patients attended to by Schulich Dentistry.

As the ideal candidate, you are a skilled and experienced clinician or clinician scientist and hold a DDS, PhD/DDS or equivalent, and you are eligible for full or academic licensure within the Province of Ontario. In exceptional circumstances, a candidate with a PhD, with commensurate experience in dental education, may be considered. You have demonstrated scholarly expertise in dental education, research, and/or patient care. You are known for being a highly collaborative, transparent, engaging, supportive, trusted, and team-oriented colleague. Diplomatic with excellent interpersonal skills, you are at ease collaborating and forming relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally to the University. Your demonstrated critical and innovative thinking, and excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills will be highly valued at Schulich and within Western.

As the successful candidate you will hold an academic appointment at the rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor with Tenure. You will be appointed to the Vice Dean & Director role for a five year term and will report directly to the Dean of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. There is a possibility of renewal for an additional term.

Compensation for this positon will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
