Location: Medway campus
Salary: £27,511 to £32,817
Contract Type: Permanent
Closing Date: Friday 01 October 2021
Interview Date: To be confirmed
Reference: 2849-E

The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology in the Faculty of Engineering and Science at the University of Greenwich (based at the Medway campus in Kent) requires an experienced addition to the team of Engineers to support Enterprise, Research, Teaching and Development work in the specialist field of bulk solids handling. The successful applicant will augment a world-renowned team of engineers providing research and consulting services to a broad range of industry sectors.

The successful applicant will be mainly involved initially in development and commercialisation of a new Mechanical Surface Energy test and in related matters of powder flow and powder formulation. The engineer will be expected to work with specialists in many technical fields at the Centre, to utilise their expertise as well as his own.

Activities will also include laboratory and analytical work relating to design and troubleshooting of powder formulation and industrial solids handling systems. Engagement with various research focussed projects will also be required along with teaching responsibilities to undergraduate students in the School of Engineering and to engineers in industry through short courses.

The successful applicants’ grade will be assessed according to experience and expertise in relation to the criteria set on the person specification.

A PhD qualification (or near completion thereof) in some aspect of powder or bulk solids technology is preferred, together with some familiarity of general engineering principles applied in industry. However, a lack of PhD qualification need not discount if a candidate has extensive relevant practical knowledge and experience instead. Experience in development of experimental techniques related to particle-surface interaction will be a significant advantage, as will be experience with the development and use of digital tools to aid powder formulation. A track-record of hands-on skills in laboratory and/or practical engineering work is essential. The candidate will need to have well developed communication skills, both written and oral, and to be prepared to represent The Wolfson Centre to industry clients and research groups in a way that will impress.

Hours of work will be full time but with flexibility to make early starts and/or late finishes when travel or workload requires. This post is permanent.

Informal enquiries may be made to Caroline Chapman c.j.chapman@gre.ac.uk

We welcome applications from anywhere in the world, but we would expect the successful candidate to relocate to the UK if not already a UK resident and to be based at our Medway Campus.
