Keele University

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Keele University is seeking to appoint a strong leader to the position of Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.  The University has international reach, a reputation for world-class research, high quality research-led education and an outstanding student experience, reflected in a Gold award in the TEF. Keele has consistently ranked within the top three universities in England for overall student satisfaction in the NSS. The University has invested heavily over the past 10 years in its campus and infrastructure, and aims to build on the impact of its broad academic and research programmes to transform understanding and bring benefits to society, communities and individuals.

The successful candidate will lead a diverse faculty of over 200 staff and 5,000 students in four academic Schools covering a wide range of academic and professional disciplines: Humanities; Keele Business School (KBS); Law; and Social, Political and Global Studies (SPGS). The Faculty also hosts a highly successful cross-institutional research centre, the Keele Institute for Social Inclusion, and is home to the University’s Language Centre. The Faculty plans to achieve growth in student numbers in all areas at both UG and PGT levels. Key priorities also include growing research income, improving student satisfaction, increasing Keele’s share of the international market and growing online presence. The postholder will be a member of the University's Executive team and will play a major leadership role within and across the University through their PVC remit.

Candidates will be strategic leaders with a strong personal research background in a relevant discipline, and a strong track-record of leading research and teaching.  Ambitious, imaginative, and entrepreneurial, they will demonstrate financial acuity, and the drive to seek out and exploit commercial and growth opportunities. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to work collaboratively within and outside of the faculty and institution.  Candidates should demonstrate superb relationship-building, motivational and interpersonal skills and an excellent understanding of the current HE environment.  This is an opportunity to work with an engaged community of scholars, and to grow and shape a faculty that is fundamental to the success of the University.

Company

Keele University was founded more than 60 years ago on the belief that they met the demands of a new kind of society, economy and world. The university feels these principles resonate now more than ever.

Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, Keele is the largest campus based university and has a cosmopolitan community, with more than 150 clubs and societies to join, as well as shops, cafes, bars, an award-winning Students’ Union and a health centre.

Keele University delivers a range of academic courses and research across a variety of subjects, from health and humanities to social and natural sciences. They teach in small groups, provide one-to-one access to their academics and value the quality of their teaching as highly as their research.

Over the last decade, the university has invested over £140 million into the campus, including a £2.7 million transformation at the centre of campus. The university offers more than 3,000 bedrooms on campus and is hoping to increase this to over 4,000 over the next few years.

Keele University successively ranks at the very top of student satisfaction surveys.

Whatever your area of study, their distinctive and flexible approach to teaching and learning will open your mind to challenge and build a broader based knowledge.
