Applications are invited for a temporary appointment (5 years) for a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Art History, in the School of Art History and Cultural Policy at UCD, Dublin.

The person appointed should have expertise in any area of modern and/or contemporary art history, 1950 - present. Applicants must have completed a PhD in Art History or a cognate area, and must have experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Candidates must also have research and teaching experience beyond Irish art history.

Experience in global and/or non-western art history is desirable. The successful candidate will prepare, design, deliver and assess high-quality taught modules in the undergraduate and graduate programmes, as well as contributing to cross-School teaching in art history, cultural policy, and creative industries; and will undertake such administrative duties as assigned by the Head of School or his/her nominee.

The appointee will also pursue their individual scholarly research specialism, supervise postgraduate research, and contribute to the collegial and highly engaged research culture of the School.


UCD is a dynamic research-intensive university that is at the forefront of research and teaching activities across a wide range of disciplines. The successful candidate will join the oldest and largest art history department on the island, with research and teaching interests that span medieval to contemporary art, and two very successful MA taught programmes in Art History, and Cultural Policy & Arts Management.

Lecturer/Asst Professor Above Salary Scale: €54,849 - €87,724 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
