Job Description

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking a research assistant for the project of social-behavioural interventions for health among low-wage dormitory-dwelling migrant workers.

The successful applicant will have a public health background, have strong interest in working for vulnerable populations, experience working with community organizations, show good initiative in troubleshooting tasks and have excellent communication skills.

The Research Assistant will play an important role in the development and implementation of the intervention research. Previous research experience with the population is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) to prepare & conduct the project
  • Coordinate the intervention programmes
  • Oversee data collection and quality assurance
  • Assist the PI to write reports and papers
  • Train and supervise student assistants and part-time workers
  • Collaborate on the projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Assist the PI with other day-to-day tasks (e.g., ethic approval, etc.)

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences (sociology, psychology, public health, etc).
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Good project management skills
  • Fluency in English and good writing (scientific writing) skills are essential
  • Experience in conducting community survey research
  • Qualitative and ethnographic research experience is desirable
  • Interests in working with vulnerable populations (e.g., migrant workers)
  • Knowledge of statistical software (SPSS, STATA, SAS, or R)
  • Self-motivated, independent learner and detail-oriented
