Chair of Governors

The University of Chichester is seeking an outstanding candidate to succeed Richard Martin as Chair of Governors from early 2022.

The only higher education institution based in the County of West Sussex, the University is recognised nationally and internationally as providing an outstanding student experience, with a top thirty ranking in the Guardian League Table. A £35m Engineering and Digital Technology Park was completed in 2018 and new programmes have been launched in Law, Nursing and Physiotherapy. This year applications to the University have risen by 28%.

The new Chair of Governors will provide leadership for the Board to achieve the University’s strategic aims and support the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jane Longmore, and her executive team in delivering the objectives of the University Strategy, Open for Change, through exemplary governance practice.  The University is in a growth phase and is implementing an ambitious capital development programme to enhance the accommodation available to students at its Bognor Regis Campus and Bishop Otter Campus, Chichester. Further information about the University is available on www.chi.ac.uk

The successful candidate will have proven leadership of a complex public or private organisation, excellent interpersonal skills and be a good communicator. The new Chair will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the values of the University, be a role model for students and staff, and be a source of advice to senior management whilst recognising the proper separation between governance and management. The time commitment is estimated to be approximately five days per month.  The appointment is not remunerated but direct expenses will be reimbursed.
