We are inviting applications for a part-time (0.6FTE) Research Assistant on a fixed term basis for a period of 19 months to support our work around understanding and improving the health of people under probation supervision. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research on a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded study called ‘Measuring and improving the health and quality of healthcare for people in contact with probation: Developing data collection and quality indicators’. This post will be directed by the Chief Investigator, Dr Coral Sirdifield.

Dr Sirdifield is a Research Fellow in the Community and Health Research Unit (CaHRU), the research centre of the School of Health and Social Care at the University of Lincoln. Members of CaHRU undertake independent research relating to quality improvement and innovation in health and social care. Our research has had an important influence on policy and practice in the UK and beyond.

Based at the University of Lincoln Brayford Campus the Research Assistant will report directly to Dr Sirdifield. They will also work closely with the CaHRU team, and other collaborators on the study, including those based with Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service, and Revolving Doors Agency.

Previous appropriate methods training and experience are essential. They will be involved in all aspects of the research including: undertaking a systematic literature review; overseeing administration of online and paper based surveys; entering data into quantitative and qualitative data analysis software, and conducting telephone interviews. The post holder will also be responsible for analysing data using thematic analysis, and supporting preparation of reports, conference abstracts, presentations, and journal papers.

Ideally the applicant will have relevant experience of working in the field of criminal justice and/or health, systematic literature reviews, qualitative and survey research and should be knowledgeable of and proficient in the use of data analysis packages such as NVivo and SPSS. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work well with members of the wider project team and CaHRU staff.

The post is an exciting opportunity for a researcher to join a research centre with an international reputation in applied, translational health research and a dynamic and growing team of academic staff committed to the evaluation of health and social care quality and outcomes.

For all enquiries and further information please contact Dr Coral Sirdifield (csirdifield@lincoln.ac.uk).
