The Faculty of Engineering & Built Environments prides itself in its vibrant, dynamic and diverse engineering community of scholars who are passionate about enhancing the learning experience of students, enhancing the research profile of the Faculty and enhancing the academic, social and economic impact of the Faculty’s teaching and research programmes.

Job specification:

The Department of Quality and Operations Management currently has full time staff compliment of 15 lecturers who provide services to more than 1500 students over three programmes namely Operations Management, Management Services and Quality. Quality and Operations Management includes a range of activities from managing quality and process strategy to human resources and supply chain management. Students who completes and graduate from these programmes are better placed in the industry and major organisations. Career Opportunities includes opportunities in production supervision, factory management, product development, and flow and cost control, quality assurance, quality control and work study

Responsibilities: 

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Teach, develop and manage study material for allocated modules
  • Supervise postgraduate students' research and supervised research projects of postgraduate students successfully
  • Substantially published articles in accredited, peer reviewed journals
  • Ability to raise research funding internally and externally
  • A well-developed quantitative and/or qualitative methodology skills
  • Forge and maintain external professional networks and international collaboration
  • Fulfil leadership roles in the department
  • Be involved in community engagement
  • Being involved in all departmental academic and administrative activities (e.g. invigilation, participation in departmental and faculty meetings)

Minimum requirements

  • Relevant doctoral degree with at least two years industry experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years academic experience within a Higher Education institution.
  • Publication in multiple accredited journal articles

  • Ability to work as member of the department and faculty
  • Ability to be a flexible team player with good team-oriented skills
  • Enthusiasm and passion for teaching, research and community engagement
  • Teaching in multidisciplinary fields
  • Sound problem solving and decision making skills

Recommendations

  • Teaching experience in a Higher Education institution
  • Track record of postgraduate research supervision and publications in the relevant field Preferably NRF rated
  • Proven record of engagement with the scholarship of teaching and learning Innovative teaching and research techniques incorporating technology
  • Research specialization that articulates well with the existing interest of the department
  • Evidence of research outputs and proven track record of postgraduate supervision at Masters level and Doctoral level.
