An exciting opportunity has arisen for you to work in the University of Southampton’s Sport and Wellbeing facilities, which are open to its students, staff and members of the wider community. These include the signature Jubilee Sports Centre, Mayflower Gym, Wide Lane Sports’ Ground and the Watersports Centre. An extensive range of sport and leisure classes, courses and facilities are available to our customers from 07:00 to 22:00 every day of the week. We are looking for a Sports Grounds Assistant to work at Wide Lane Sports Grounds who is keen to be part of a dynamic and dependable team.

The University outdoor facilities are 22 hectares of mixed sport pitches, a pavilion and two gyms. The grounds teamwork throughout the year to provide playable surfaces for a number of sports such as football, rugby, cricket, hockey, tennis and American football. The grounds team also support the outdoor facilities at the University Watersports centre, ensuring the site is safe for use. Applicants for the role would ideally be looking to learn to work within this team or bring significant skills to this post to enhance the provision of pitches at Wide Lane. Wide Lane is equipped with a large range of equipment to help maintain the pitches and grounds of the site.

Applicants would be required to drive machinery with attachments such as mowers, harrows, seeders and aeration. Other jobs on site would require the grounds staff to maintain hedgerows, synthetic pitches and the buildings on site. Applicants should be qualified to at least GCSE level with both grounds work experience and also experience of working within a team.

This position is full time with the following working pattern: 7 days a week, working on a rota pattern between 8am and 6pm. Adjustments to rota patterns may be made occasionally to accommodate events.

This post will be recruited at the base of spinal point 9 - £18,709 plus a 10% uplift for being on a Unique Working Pattern.

Upon appointment, the post title will be 'Sport and Wellbeing Grounds Assistant'.
