The Role

The Department of Digital Transformation seeks academics with expert knowledge of, and experience in, software development. This will be combined with the proven ability to communicate, support students and experience of working in or with industry.  A track record of research will also be needed for Lecturer and Senior Lecturer roles. 

Depending on experience, applicants will teach across a variety of areas. You will be expected to teach at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels from level 3 (foundation year) to level 7 (masters degree).  Subject areas include (but are not limited to): 

  • Databases 
  • Programming 
  • Software design 
  • Systems integration 
  • System testing and evaluation 
  • Cloud computing and server technology 
  • Digital transformation

Applicants are expected to have good practical experience in one or more of these subject areas. 

Membership of a professional body (such as the BCS or the IET) and professional registration (such as CITP or CEng) would be an advantage at all grades.

Assistant Lecturer - £30,831 to £33,512 
Lecturer - £37,505 to £40,766 
Senior Lecturer - £46,376 to £50,408 

For Lecturer Grade and above you will be expected to

  • Develop your own high-quality teaching materials.
  • Manage learner cohorts.
  • Teach as a member of the Digital Transformation team in a variety of settings.
  • Ensure the efficient delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy and procedures.
  • Set and mark assessments and provide constructive feedback to students; 
  • Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Digital Transformation team to conduct high quality applied research leading to publications in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
  • Develop external partnerships to support bid writing for research funding.
  • Apply practical skills in industry through the delivery of training and consultancy.
  • Be innovative, task-owning and team-oriented in your approach to work.

What you need

  • Experience of software development in an industry context.
  • A PhD or nearing completion i.e. viva pending, or equivalent qualification.  Applicants who have a masters level qualification and extensive practice experience will also be considered. 
  • An enthusiasm for teaching and learning.
  • Outstanding technical, teamwork and communication skills.

Selection and Interview Process
