Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Fellow for “V2P: multi-stage big data approach for proteogenomic analysis”> in Computational & Statistical Systems Biology lab, the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Our team develop bioinformatics and statistical tools to analyze high-throughput molecular data sets in the context of molecular biology research and clinical studies.
Purpose of the post
Research fellow position to carry out systems-level association analyses of large-scale genome and exome sequencing data in cancer studies, using the GPD methodology we developed in the lab (doi/10.1002/humu.23979 and doi/10.1101/2021.01.10.426142).
Primary aim is to extend this data analysis framework from exome-only analysis to whole epigenome-level analysis and into the multi-omics analysis for association with other omics data from the same subjects (e.g. transcriptome and proteome).
This is a full-time position of 18 months, renewable subjected to research grants availability.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties of the research fellow are:
- Download, curate, and manage data sets from public data repositories in secure server environment (TCGA, ICGC, and others)
- Process raw sequencing data into annotated variant information and mutation calls
- Perform statistical association analysis with various clinical endpoints in TCGA
- (Optional) develop a new approach to investigate the functional impact of somatic mutations and germline variants onto mRNA and protein-level measurements
We expect an ideal candidate to:
- Be fluent with basic and advanced computational tools for processing, storing, and managing next generation sequencing data efficiently
- Be proficient in low-level computer languages and linux/unix servers
- Have solid background in molecular biology and statistics, especially in high-dimensional data analysis
- Preferably have some experience in the analysis of single cell transcriptomics and epigenomics, but not required
- Have experience in developing novel data analysis approaches and implementing them into software packages
- Have excellent communication skills and demonstrate records of good scientific writing
Qualifications
The applicant should:
- Have a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, or any related disciplines
- Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail; and
- Excellent communication skills and proven record in scientific writing
Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
