Research topic and job description

We are seeking talented post-doctoral fellow applications for positions focused on the measurement of small molecules via liquid chromatography (LC) and gas chromatography (GC), coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS).

The successful candidate will have opportunity to support ongoing research projects, assist the establishment of infrastructure resources and the freedom to propose and develop own research interests towards understanding the influence of chemical exposures on health.

The group currently operate a UHPLC-Orbitrap (Thermo Orbitrap Fusion Tribrid), a GC-Orbitrap (Thermo GC Q-Exactive) and are expanding capacity in near future. The research benefits from close internal (e.g. RECETOX Biobank, Institute of Computer Science) and international collaboration.

Postdoctoral position is offered within CETOCOEN Plus project available until end of 2022 with a possibility for prolongation to longer-term position. 

Group details

The group led by Dr Elliott J Price is developing analytical workflows for exposure and effect biomarker discovery within the Environmental Chemistry and Modelling research program co-ordinated by Prof Jana Klánová. The group focus upon the population scale profiling of exogenous and endogenous chemicals in human biospecimen.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Development of LC-HRMS and/or GC-HRMS methods and analytical workflows including QA/QC procedures
  • Biological samples preparation and analysis for the measurement of exposure and disease biomarkers
  • Operating and maintaining GC and/or LC instrumentation
  • Performing data analysis and interpretation in collaboration with bioinformatics, biostatistics and epidemiology groups
  • Preparation of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals

Candidate profile and experience

Candidate should have

  1. Ph.D. in metabolomics, proteomics, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, mass spectrometry, environmental chemistry, or equivalent
  2. Demonstrable experience with full-scan/untargeted mass spectrometry
  3. Extensive knowledge of sample preparation for chemical analysis of complex matrices
  4. Understanding of QA/QC requirements and best practice
  5. Bioinformatics skills or competence with data processing tools (e.g. MS-DIAL, MZmine 2) is appreciated
