Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering Risks to built infrastructure, especially in the context of rail networks continue to be a challenge for many countries, especially in the Atlantic Area of EU. It is important to be able to monitor several of these infrastructures in their operational condition. This project focuses on using an instrumented train as a monitoring device for various aspects of railway infrastructure network. The project will instrument and investigate the possibility of several such detection and create a numerical and experimental evidence base around it, while engaging with industrial and academic partners of this project in a number of countries. The position will be hosted in UCD Centre for Mechanics, Dynamical Systems and Risk Laboratory, School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, University College Dublin. This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching. In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project: * Carry out excellent and timely research in relation to the project objectives and deliverables. * Assist in relevant administration for the project * Provide support and augment research-driven teaching and learning in UCD, including contribution of new materials * Actively engage in liaising with companies and academic collaborators in SIRMA and the wider industrial sector * Actively contribute to the dissemination and day-to-day activities of UCD Centre for Mechanics Fixed Salary: €38,631 per annum Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on 11th August 2021 Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified.
