The Mechanical Engineering Department wishes to appoint a Teaching Fellow to contribute to its teaching and to a programme of development of its  taught undergraduate courses, specifically in Mechanical Design and Manufacturing.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has an outstanding international reputation for both its research and its teaching. Its undergraduate MEng degree course is a four-year programme, with an intake of 180 students per year; the course is delivered by about 50 teaching staff. The course comprises two years of core subjects, covering the full range of interests in Mechanical Engineering, compulsory for all students; in years 3 and 4 the students then have significant choice and are able to specialise according to their interests. The variety is enabled and strengthened by the world-leading research of the department.

¬We are looking to appoint a Teaching Fellow to support our Undergraduate curriculum and Mechanical Design and Manufacturing programmes. The postholder will be part of our Learning & Teaching Team, working closely with other Teaching Fellows and Academics to help us continue to offer an outstanding learning experience for our students; preparing them for their future careers in engineering. 

Duties and Responsibilities

• You will be undertaking teaching duties, including the design and delivery of teaching material, assessment of work and supervision of student work and projects. 
• You will develop curriculums for general engineering, design and manufacturing including systematic design and kinematics of mechanisms, amongst others.
• You will initiate and support practical project activities; for example the Imperial Racing Green team, assisting their participation in competitive events.

Skills, knowledge and experience

• You should have a degree (or equivalent) in Engineering. This should be complimented with a breadth of knowledge in mechanical engineering disciplines
• You must have an understanding of, and practical experience in general Mechanical Engineering, design and manufacturing, which may include:    

o    Systematic design, design methodology and theory
o    Design for sustainability
o    Production and manufacturing processes 
o    Design of mechanisms and kinematics of mechanisms and machines
o    Industrial automation and/or electric drives

• Experience of teaching in an academic or industrial setting is essential.
