  • 5-year fixed-term position on a full-time basis with an attractive remuneration package

About the opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is the largest faculty in the University. This integrated faculty brings opportunity for innovation, progressive thinking and challenging the status quo by establishing productive research units that cross traditional academic school and discipline boundaries. We operate across four large health precincts (three metropolitan and one regional/rural) where University facilities are co-located with hospitals and medical research institutes.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding senior clinical academic as Professor or Associate Professor of Medicine (Nephrology) to contribute to faculty wide clinical research and teaching in nephrology within Sydney Medical School in partnership with the Sydney Local Health District (SLHD). The position is to be located at Concord Clinical School in Sydney Medical School, which is co-located with Concord Repatriation General Hospital, in the SLHD. The position requires evidence of an outstanding track record in research related to kidney disease, experience in the successful supervision of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students and a deep understanding of the rapid changes in the clinical and laboratory aspects of renal medicine.

Concord Clinical School is one of the nine clinical schools of Sydney Medical School and is a major contributor to the University's reputation and achievements in medicine and the biosciences. Research strengths in renal medicine include clinical trials.

About you

The successful candidate must have a competitive research program in areas that complement existing nephrology research across the University and SLHD and which align with national and community priority areas. You will be expected to have an outstanding track record of success in peer-reviewed publications and in competitive grant funding.

The successful applicant must have a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders, that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the school, faculty and University.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a 5-year fixed-term position on a full-time basis, with the possibility for renewal subject to performance and funding agreement. The appointment is also subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.

The selected candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.

Clinical and/or laboratory activities will be remunerated in accordance with Clinical Academics employed in the NSW Health Service.
