Job description

We would like to invite applications for a Research Project Manager, working with Professor Ulrike Schmidt, on a multi-centre National Institute of Health Research funded randomised controlled trial. The aim of the DAISIES trial is to compare inpatient treatment-as-usual with ‘stepping into day treatment’ for patients with severe anorexia nervosa. The post holder will mainly be responsible for the day-to-day running of the DAISIES trial under the supervision of a post-doctoral researcher and the Professor Ulrike Schmidt (the Principal Investigator). This involves the recruitment and comprehensive assessment of trial participants, liaising with collaborators at participating NHS sites, entering data and maintenance of the trial database, report writing and dissemination of results. This post will be based at the Section of Eating Disorders, Department of Psychological Medicine at the Denmark Hill campus (Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience). The postholder will have excellent written and oral communication and organisation skills and will demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm. Previous experience of working with people with an eating disorder is essential  

This is a full time post but we will consider part time applicants 

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract until 31st July 2023 

This is a full-time  post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

• Day-to-day administration of the project  

• Act as a point of contact for clinical teams and trial participants.  

• Taking responsibility for designated clinical teams and appropriately managing designated participants from initial contact, through data collection. 

• Maintenance of trial files, including the trial master file and dataset

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria 

• Minimum 2:1 degree in Psychology or other relevant area 

• Relevant research experience, e.g. conducting quantitative and qualitative research 

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including communication with patients and carers 

• Excellent organisational skills 

• Understanding of data confidentiality 

• Knowledge of research design 

• Experience of working with people with an eating disorder 

• Good attention to detail and high standards of accuracy in all aspects of work 

• A demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of colleagues 

• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritise different task demands 

Desirable criteria 

• Knowledge of assessment procedures in research with patients with eating disorders and/or obesity 

• Experience in data entry 

• Experience of writing reports/papers 

* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
