Apprentice Laboratory Technician

The University of Southampton requires an apprentice to join its technical support team within the School of Geography and Environmental Science (SoGES). You will be based primarily at the Highfield Campus, providing technical support for a wide range of research and educational activities, including working in a range of laboratories and with field equipment.
The apprenticeship will be a combination of learning on the job, guided by our highly experienced technical team, together with off the job training/study with our training provider Fareham College. On successful completion of the apprenticeship you will become a qualified Laboratory Technician and will have a full time permanent position at the University.
Year 1: £6.61p/h (60%)
Year 2: £7.71p/h (70%)
Upon completion of apprenticeship: £11.01p/h (100%) Level 2B, Spine Point 13, £20,675 per annum.
You will learn to use and maintain specialist technical equipment including laboratory analytical instruments (For example: Scanning Electron Microscope, Particle Size Analyser, and X-ray Fluorescence) and field equipment (for example drones, boats, and surveying equipment). There will also be opportunities to support fieldwork in a variety of environments (e.g. rivers, mountains, coasts, lakes, glaciers, deserts) in the UK and potentially overseas.
