UCD School of Earth Sciences seeks to appoint a Lecturer/Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Economic Geology/Petrology - ideally commencing on 1st January 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates must possess a PhD in Geology or Earth Sciences, and have an outstanding track record of published scientific research for their career stage, with a specialisation in Economic Geology/Petrology, particularly base metals and critical element deposits. Areas of research interest are broad and include ore deposits, geochemistry and isotope geochemistry, petrology of igneous and metamorphic systems, geochronology, and sustainable mining and mineral resources.

The successful applicant will aid in further developing the UCD hosted National Centre for Isotope Geochemistry (NCIG) and is likely to have a significant track record of raising research income from industrial and other sources. Currently the NCIG at UCD houses a Neptune high-resolution inductively coupled plasma (ICP) mass-spectrometer, a Triton thermal ionisation mass-spectrometer and two iCAP ICP-MS instruments, one of which is coupled to a laser system, in addition to supporting low-blank laboratories.

The appointed person will be an enthusiastic university teacher who will contribute to existing degree programmes (Geology BSc (Hons) and MSc in Subsurface characterisation and Geomodelling) and lead on the development of new teaching programmes, in applied geosciences. Candidates must also be able and willing to lead Geology field classes and capable of supervising final year BSc students and MSc students undertaking laboratory and independent field mapping projects.

A full driving licence would be beneficial but not essential to carrying out the role.
