At TU Dresden, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Forest Sciences, the Institute of Forest Botany and Forest Zoology invites applications for the 

Chair (W2) of Forest Zoology 

to be filled from April 1, 2022.

The chair will represent forest ecological aspects in the field of organismic zoology in research, teaching and transfer of knowledge to the public. The  research of the Chair of Forest Zoology focuses on organisms and populations of animals in forest ecosystems. Key challenges of global change should be integrated into the chair’s research profile, for example with modern research approaches about the challenges of climate change, the loss of biological diversity or alien species. Your teaching obligations comprise the full scope of Forest Zoology in the bachelor and master programs “Forest Sciences” and the international master program “Tropical Forestry”. Independent contributions to further study programs of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, for example in the master program “Spatial Development and Natural Resource Management”, are required. We expect your active participation in academic self-administration.

We are seeking an internationally renowned candidate with profound knowledge and experience in ecology and population genetics of animals, proven by a first-class publication record. You are visible in the international research community and possess experience in the acquisition of third-party funding. Skills for conducting lectures in the English language are a prerequisite. Proficiency in German is not a prerequisite for appointment. However, we expect the successful candidate to acquire language skills sufficient to conduct teaching and administrative tasks within two years of appointment. We further require the experience and ability to conduct interdisciplinary research and your willingness for active cooperation with researchers from other disciplines within the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and TU Dresden. We expect your participation in the CIPSEM (Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management) and the collaboration with the Dresden-based UNU Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and Resources (UNU-FLORES) of the United Nations University. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
