About the opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and hardworking senior clinical trial support professional to join the University of Sydney's Research Portfolio in a newly established role.

The Senior Clinical Trials Support Lead will provide a senior liaison role for the University's research community, assisting research groups to scope, plan for and fulfil the centralised governance and contracting aspects of clinical trial start up and expansion.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support leaders in their field at one of the world's top research universities.

You will:

  • provide sound, strategic and expert tailored advice, and structured training, to research groups and other support professionals on the process for establishment (and expansion) of clinical trials through centralised oversight functions, including risk assessment, site governance, ethics, contracts and account establishment;
  • act as a cohesive link between specialist clinical trial officers performing oversight functions within the Research Portfolio, to optimize trial establishment and ensure trialists have a clear and common understanding of all steps required;
  • identify and analyse emerging risks and threats to the timely establishment of clinical trials and recommend elimination or mitigation strategies in collaboration with stakeholders; and
  • troubleshoot concerns and questions, triaging to appropriate specialist colleagues and ensuring timely escalation as required.

  • demonstrates significant experience in supporting the establishment of clinical trials, particularly from a Sponsor perspective in an academic context
  • can confidently scope the ethics and governance approvals required to establish a range of trials, traversing university, hospital and private locations
  • can confidently scope the standard contracts required to achieve trial goals, including funding, collaboration, product support and logistics, clinical trial services and site agreements
  • has a strong understanding of, and is committed to ensuring robust compliance with, legislative and policy requirements for clinical trials in a highly regulated environment
  • possesses maturity and high-quality interpersonal skills that will enable the development of strong and trusted relationships with professional and academic staff, as well as a range of external stakeholders
  • possesses clear verbal and written communication skills, adaptable for a range of audiences
  • demonstrates significant experience in managing competing deadlines
  • exhibits resilience and is capable of exercising sound judgement in decision making
  • has a focus on client service and continuous improvement.

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Australian Temporary Residents may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
