The University has been at the forefront of change, excellence and innovation for over 560 years.  Our history is bound up with that of Glasgow  and Scotland, but we are also outward-looking, international and keen to strengthen our position in the world’s top 100 research-intensive universities. Our economic impact is substantial, we sustain £1.5bn of output, £800m in gross value add and nearly 15,000 jobs across Scotland. For every £1 invested in our University, £8.30 of economic activity is generated.

Although we have been delivering world-changing impact for over five centuries, we are firmly focused on the future.  Our plans for innovation and commercialisation will enhance the global impact of our research and economic engagement activity to meet Scottish and UK Government aspirations for entrepreneurship, business growth and economic prosperity.

Our new Director of Innovation & Engagement will provide strategic leadership, supporting the Vice-Principal for Commercial Engagement and Innovation, in building the University’s central function supporting innovation and commercialisation activities as we deliver our ambitious plan.

Effective leadership at Glasgow is essential to achieving our vision of a world-class, world-changing university, as set out in our strategy, ‘World Changers Together’. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strategic leadership capabilities with the ability to define and develop strategy and translate into effective operational plans. We are keen to explore research, innovation and commercialisation leaders from across sectors with candidates able to translate their experience to a multi-faceted, knowledge-led environment. Your ability to lead, influence, motivate and grow a team, will be aided by your well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels within and outside the University.

We recognise that we must rapidly increase our activity in this area and have dedicated a multimillion-pound budget; there are few roles in UK higher education with this level of investment. For full information on this exciting role please visit
