Lecturer in Civil and Transportation Engineering– Full time, Permanent

The School of Engineering and the Built Environment (SEBE) is delighted to be able to offer a new post in Civil and Transportation Engineering.

SEBE offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes widely recognised for their academic quality, innovation and close ties to the industries in which our graduates work. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in developing our expanding portfolio of programmes and contribute to the growing international standing of our research. We are currently undertaking a review of all of our activities, so now is a great time to join and help shape our school's future.

The Civil & Transportation Engineering (CTR) subject group has a strong background in Structures, Geotechnics, Transportation Engineering, Hydraulics and Timber Engineering. As a subject group, CTR returned the highest number of academic staff within Edinburgh Napier to REF2020.  All our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators. 

The Role

The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of transportation engineering and transport policy on our MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering, and integrated design on our MEng and Graduate Apprentice programmes in Civil and Transportation Engineering.  You will also make a strong contribution to our online provision, with responsibility for developing, designing, and delivering teaching and student-centred activities underpinned by academic scholarship and professional practice.

You will also become a member of the Transport Research and Innovation centre and engage in individual and collaborative research projects and contribute to the research profile within SEBE through the production of high-quality research outputs and income generation.  You will also contribute to the University's growing academic reputation for research-informed student learning. You must be ambitious and enthusiastic about cross-disciplinary working and be committed to working collaboratively across the University.

Please note that you will be required to work overseas contributing to the international academic reputation of Edinburgh Napier University.

What we are looking for

Applicants must:

• Hold a doctoral-level qualification or equivalent on commencement of employment
• Demonstrate an ability to lead teaching & learning and research.
• Provide evidence of leadership or innovation in academic development
• Be able to deliver high quality, student-centred teaching
• Show successful delivery of funded research projects. 
• Be able to develop innovative research that is consistent with existing Centre themes.  
• Demonstrate strong links with a transport professional institution.

Desirable attributes

• Have HEA membership or a strong willingness to achieve membership within 2 years of appointment

Salary: GBP 40,322 - 49,553 per annum (Grade 6)
