Job Description

The NUS Environmental Research Institute (NERI), National University of Singapore, is looking for a research fellow for the project on microbial methane conversion for single cell protein (SCP) production under high pressure. We seek an applicant with a strong background in microbiology, metagenomics, and computational biology. The full-time research fellow will be expected to actively participate in an incoming research project on the mining of rich environmental bioresources through genomic data for potential methanotrophs, which can be used in converting methane from biogas sources into SCP. The identified methanotrophs will be used for methane conversion in a novel pressurized bioreactor. This project will utilize the following techniques: metagenomics-based data mining, metabolic modelling, microbial cultivation, and nutritional analysis.

Qualifications

The applicant must have a PhD degree in Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related fields, and a strong communication and data analysis skills. Experience with microbial cultivation, amplicon and/or metagenomics sequencing, and sequence data analysis is essential.
