Position Context

La Trobe University seeks an ambitious and experienced engagement professional to establish and lead the newly created Cisco Innovation Central Melbourne and Digital Innovation Hub as the Manager of these Centres. This position is responsible for the successful delivery and growth of Innovation Central Melbourne and the Digital Innovation Hub, a key component of a partnership between Cisco and La Trobe University.

The vision of Innovation Central Melbourne is to become a global research leader in accelerating the advancement of digital transformation by fostering a collaborative industry-university open innovation ecosystem that have a specific focus on Supply Chain and Sustainability, AI and IoT. It forms part of Cisco’s national network of Innovation Centres and is located on La Trobe’s Bundoora Campus.

This is a jointly funded position, holding significant importance for Cisco and La Trobe and will be responsible for all business functions of the Digital Innovation Hub and Innovation Centre, including leadership in the development of business and strategy, oversight of resource planning and allocation, internal and external stakeholder management, representation nationally the Centre, and engaged in partner management and research project development.

About the position

This position will be responsible for all business functions of the Centre providing leadership in the development of business, strategy and partner management. The position also involves providing oversight for resource planning and allocation. Working collaboratively with colleagues within the Industry Engagement team and across the University and local industry will be critical to identify and build industry partnerships. The position requires strong management and leadership skills.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • A Masters or other postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline together with demonstrated experience in establishing and running a centre or facility focused on engaging external customers & partners, digital transformation.
  • 5+ years experience in developing and managing business development opportunity pipelines in relation to technology and innovation and a strong aptitude in partnership management, business development and account management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and develop key strategic partnerships and deliver end-to-end conversion of strategic business development opportunities to support the delivery of revenue growth and impact objectives within a university environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical project teams, mentor team members and translate technical terms into business/industry language.
  • Access to relevant industry networks and demonstrated experience in seeking and securing industry and government support, with strong knowledge and understanding of digital technology and innovation.
  • Demonstrated program management skills (including lean/agile methodologies) high-level ability to operate effectively in a complex environment, balance a range of multiple simultaneous demands whilst delivering business outcomes within defined timeframes.
