About the Roles

As the Lecturer (part-time appointment), you will contribute to the teaching activities within the Discipline of Nursing in an area related to your expertise in one of the following areas:

  • Acute care nursing, and/or
  • Mental Health, and/or
  • Indigenous health

This role will also see you being actively involved in maintaining industry engagements and partnerships with academic and professional communities, as well as working towards advancing your scholarly and research capabilities. Your collaborative approach and innovative thinking will contribute to preparing and delivering high quality courses online and on campus at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

As the Lecturer (full-time appointment), you will be able to make a significant contribution to the teaching and research efforts of the discipline of Nursing, particularly in the area of Mental Health nursing. The role of the Senior Lecturer (full-time appointment), will see you being a leader in embedding your research expertise into the life of the School and developing valuable networks across RMIT and with local, national and global, internal and external partners. You will be responsible for teaching activities in your expertise in mental health in the undergraduate and post graduate programs. You will play a pivotal role in delivering, in collaboration with other discipline members, high quality student experience by embracing interactive, digitally enabled student-centred learning experiences in an online and face to face setting.

About You

To be successful for Lecturer - level B position, you will have:

  • Ability to prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels in acute care, or Indigenous health or mental health for Lecturer, part-time appointment and in mental health for Lecturer, full-time appointment; including online delivery for both appointments
  • Experience coordinating students undertaking clinical placement experience including liaising with clinical agencies to support students during placements
  • Capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning
  • Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links
  • Ability to build effective networks and generate alternative funding projects through connection with industry and government
  • Demonstrated professional nursing practice within the previous five year and experience working within the higher education sector

To be successful for Lecturer - level C position, you will have:

  • Ability to coordinate small and large courses and prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels within the area of mental health, including high quality curriculum and program materials and ability to implement innovative approaches in both online and face to face settings
  • Ability to support student issues related to effective learning
  • Emerging nationally recognised research track record including substantial record of research outputs in high quality outlets
  • Extensive experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams and mentor academic staff
  • Extensive experience in supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality management systems within a university
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills the ability to communicate, build and foster relationships internally and externally
  • Demonstrated professional nursing practice within the previous five year and experience working within the higher education sector

Qualifications

Mandatory for Lecturer:

  • Registered Nurse according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • PhD or substantial progress towards a PhD or equivalent experience and intention to undertake a PhD in a relevant field
  • Recognised Mental Health qualification (for full-time appointment)

Mandatory for Senior Lecturer:

  • Registered Nurse according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Recognised Mental Health qualifications
  • PhD in a relevant field

Appointment to these positions are subject to passing a Working with Children check.
