Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Public Health, Teaching Academic Level B/C

  • Based in UniSA Allied Health & Human Performance at City East Campus
  • Full-time, fixed term contract until 20 June 2024
  • Commencement Salary: $101,784 (Level B) / $123,961 (Level C) per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

About the Role

Appointment at Level B will primarily focus on the development, delivery and coordination of Health Sciences related disciplines contributing to the scholarship and professional activities of the Academic Unit. Due to an increasing focus on multidisciplinary teaching, the position may also be required to work with multidisciplinary student groups.

Appointment at Level C will make a significant contribution to academic leadership of the unit’s teaching and learning initiatives in the undergraduate, honours and postgraduate programs. The position will also make innovative contributions to the advancement of the Academic Unit’s teaching profile. Enhancing the connections between research and teaching, this role will actively engage and provide quality supervision to higher degree by research (HDR) students and mentoring of new academic staff to HDR supervision.

Core Responsibilities

Level B

  • Design and implement learning activities including lectures, tutorials, and assessments
  • Implement innovative teaching approaches (including face-to-face, online and blended learning) to promote student learning
  • Create, foster and enhance links with relevant business, university and community bodies that assist the advancement of University and Academic Unit objectives
  • Contribute to the design and development of engaging course curricula and materials that reflect latest research findings and industry practice
  • Undertake a course coordination role and/or provide leadership to other academic staff in the teaching team
  • Demonstrate a commitment to community engagement through activity that raises the profile of the discipline

Level C

  • Provide academic leadership to support the Academic Unit’s teaching and learning initiatives in ways that will enhance the student experience
  • Lead and contribute to the on-going development of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Undertake developmental activities to advance knowledge of effective discipline-specific pedagogical practices
  • Maintain the quality of the courses through course review, development and evaluation
  • Actively participate on the Academic Unit’s Executive and other relevant teaching committees and forums
  • Undertake high quality teaching as part of the teaching team whilst providing academic advice, counselling and mentoring to students

Essential Skills and Experience

Level B

  • Postgraduate qualification in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and a commitment to the contemporary practice of Public Health
  • Demonstrated high level written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and external stakeholders, combined with cultural sensitivity and an international perspective 
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in applying a range of contemporary teaching techniques at the tertiary level, an ability to communicate content knowledge effectively and an ability to facilitate learning in small and large groups.

Level C

  • Relevant doctoral degree in public health, epidemiology and biostatistics along with academic/professional experience
  • Experience in contemporary teaching, learning and assessment including carrying out teaching activities using a range of contemporary teaching methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of academic leadership to develop a culture of teaching and learning excellence
  • Demonstrated experience with course and curiculum development
  • Knowledge of developments and a commitment to the contemporary practice of Public Health
