Lecturer in Remote Health Practice (Allied Health):

The Lecturer will facilitate educational programs that aim to prepare a health workforce for the unique context of remote and Indigenous acute and primary health care. As an allied health practitioner, the incumbent will contribute expertise to the interprofessional health education team of Rural and Remote Health in Central Australia and across the Flinders Rural and Remote footprint.

They will perform teaching and academic administration duties, contribute research effort to developing evidence-based practice and engage with the professional and wider local community in line with Flinders University’s commitment to social accountability.

Specific activities include contributing to the coordination and delivery of topics within the Flinders Remote Health Practice programs, contributing to the NT Medical Program and undergraduate allied health programs in the NT, and health professional student's learning on placement in Central Australia.

The appointee will work closely with the Central Australian and Flinders University Rural and Remote education team and cultivate collaborative relationships with program coordinators and course directors within Flinders University and external professional organizations.

Senior Lecturer in Remote Health Practice (Allied Health):

This teaching and research position, with its primary focus on Remote and Indigenous Health will draw on contemporary professional practice to play and important role in the University’s achievement of its strategic plan, Making a Difference: The 2025 Agenda.

Key Position Responsibilities

Lecturer in Remote Health Practice - Allied Health , Level B

The Lecturer will be accountable for delivery, continued development, and assessment of allied health  knowledge and skills relevant to practice in Remote and Indigenous Health across the range of education delivered through Flinders Rural and Remote Health discipline with key responsibilities including:

• Engaging in innovative curriculum development and teaching methodology for Educational offerings relevant to Remote Health Practice.
• Making a high-quality contribution to research by participating in national/international research collaborations, producing high quality publications and external grant acquisitions.
• Participating in teams to facilitate own and student research relevant to remote and/or Indigenous health.
• Assuming responsibility for developing and maintaining beneficial professional relationships and with a view to enhance work-integrated learning opportunities with industry.
• Work with senior staff to identify external funding opportunities and collaborative partnerships, and implementation of programs to support the education of remote area allied health professionals and the multidisciplinary remote and Indigenous health teams.
• Participating in Flinders, College and professional organization committees and related activities to further the strategic goals of the University in rural, remote and Indigenous health.
• Participating in building collegial relationships between Flinders Rural and Remote campuses, Flinders Adelaide, relevant Colleges within Flinders and professional organizations, Government, industry partners, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organizations.
• A commitment to professional activities outside the University.
• Some out of hours work (including weekends) as well as NT, interstate and overseas travel, may be required.
• Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Senior Lecturer in Remote Health Practice - Allied Health, Level C​

The Senior Lecturer will be accountable for delivery, continued development, and assessment of allied health knowledge and skills relevant to practice in Remote and Indigenous Health across the range of education delivered through Flinders Rural and Remote Health discipline with key responsibilities including:

• Leading innovative curriculum development and teaching methodology for education programs relevant to Remote Health Practice.
• Develop and maintain a significant and high-quality program of research in an area of relevance to the Allied Health profession in the context of Remote and Indigenous Health participating in national/international research collaborations, producing high quality publications and external grant acquisitions.
• Supervise student research relevant to remote and/or Indigenous health.
• Contribute to evidence-based practice through participation in standards development (including CARPA)
• Responsible for developing and maintaining beneficial professional relationships and with a view to enhance work-integrated learning opportunities with industry.
• Identification of external funding opportunities and collaborative partnerships, and implementation of programs to support the education of remote area allied health professionals and the multidisciplinary remote and Indigenous health teams.
• Participation in Flinders, College and professional organization committees and related activities to further the strategic goals of the University in rural, remote and Indigenous health.

Essential criteria

• Demonstrated expertise and a significant track record in allied health practice in remote and Indigenous Health and / or
  • completion of a PhD or equivalent qualification
  • evidence of peer-reviewed independent research demonstrated to be of an equivalent standard in the discipline area
  • completion of a higher degree at Master level in a relevant area or substantial progress toward a doctoral degree
• Hold and maintain a current membership with relevant professional bodies.
• Demonstrates a commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture, and role modelling behaviours that support the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Demonstrate expertise in teaching relevant clinical practice including on-line learning, use of simulation,
• Evidence of capability in developing content, assessment, and curriculum development
• Sound knowledge of the issues surrounding remote health practice in Australia, including contemporary population health, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues.
• Demonstrate ability to practice in a culturally safe manner, including the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their representatives.
• Sound verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide high level advice and support, and liaise effectively with a wide range of health practitioners including remote area nurses, allied health practitioners, Aboriginal health practitioners, doctors, and specialists.

Desirable criteria

• Demonstrate experience in teaching clinical practice including on-line learning
• Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
• Demonstrated leadership within the remote area allied health profession.

Senior Lecturer in Remote Health Practice - Allied Health, Level C​

Essential criteria

• Completion of a PhD or equivalent qualification or any one of the following:
  • evidence of peer-reviewed independent research demonstrated to be of an equivalent standard in the discipline area
  • evidence of professional standing, reputation and qualifications demonstrated to be of an equivalent standard in the discipline area
  • completion of a higher degree at Master level in a relevant profession or teaching area or substantial progress toward a doctoral degree in the discipline area.
• Hold and maintain a current membership with relevant professional bodies
• Demonstrated expertise and a significant track record in independent allied health practice.
• Demonstrates a commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture, and role modelling behaviours that support the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Detailed knowledge of the issues surrounding remote health practice in Australia, including contemporary allied health practice, population health, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues.
• Demonstrate ability to practice in a culturally safe manner, including the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their representatives.
• Demonstrate expertise in participating in and leading teaching relevant clinical practice including on-line learning, use of simulation, and
• Evidence of leading content, assessment, and curriculum development
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide high level advice and support, and liaise effectively with a wide range of health practitioners including remote area nurses, allied health practitioners, Aboriginal health practitioners, doctors, and specialists.

Desirable criteria

• Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
• Registered or eligible to register with an Ahpra administered Board and/or professional organization and Recognition of academic standing at a national or international level in the discipline area.
• Demonstrated leadership within the remote area allied health service.
