The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,200.  The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.6 billion.

Department of English and Communication 

Assistant Professor in Language Teaching & Learning (two posts) (Ref. 21070807)

The Department of English and Communication within the Faculty of Humanities at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has a long history of conducting cutting-edge research in language and communication and producing high quality graduates for the professional workplace.  Our focus areas are professional communication and applied language studies, and we provide teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.  With a team of 27 full-time academic staff, the Department is also actively engaged in applied research in language teaching and learning and in professional communication.  Information can be obtained through the departmental homepage at http://www.engl.polyu.edu.hk/, including information about the key areas of research at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/engl/research/research-overview/.  

The Department is now inviting applications for two positions of Assistant Professor.  Priority will be given to candidates whose research expertise and teaching experience are within the key research areas listed above. 

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

(a)    teach subjects in the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes;

(b)    contribute to the curriculum design and materials development;

(c)    supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects (including PhD supervision);

(d)    actively conduct research in the Department’s research areas and contribute to the development of its research strengths;
 
(e)    assist in the administration of the Department; and

(f)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates. 

 
Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a PhD degree in Language Teaching and Learning, or in a related area;

(b)    post-qualification teaching experience in relevant subjects at tertiary level with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching (as supported by evidence of performance in teaching);

(c)    an excellent track record of published research, including experience in project-based research and grant applications; and 
      
(d)    excellent English language and communication skills.

Possession of documented experience (e.g. publications) with virtual teaching and/or data analytics will be an advantage.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
