NYU Abu Dhabi is currently inviting applications for a full time Visiting Faculty position at the rank of Lecturer of Chinese Language. The successful candidate will teach up to 3 courses per semester starting in September 2021.

Candidates must have a strong ability to teach Mandarin Chinese at all levels (to native or non-native learners); a minimum of 4 years of experience of teaching college level Chinese as the primary instructor in the classroom; a proven record of teaching Chinese effectively to English speaking, especially non-heritage, learners; and familiarity with computer aided technology in teaching. Experience in developing course materials is also required. The appointee will be asked to help further develop a Chinese language program in an exciting linguistic and cultural context. The successful candidate will also have good interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and actively interact with students in a multicultural educational setting.

The appointment would commence in Academic Year 2021-22 and the applicant must obtain a leave of absence and a letter of no objection from their home institution. The NYUAD academic calendar typically starts the last week of August and ends in the last week of May. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the UAE in time for the beginning of the semester.

Qualifications

An M.A. in the Chinese Language, Chinese Literature, Second Language Acquisition, or a related field is required. Candidates possessing a Ph.D. will be given preference. A clear commitment to undergraduate teaching is also essential.
