The REACH Initiative is an exciting new regional scheme aimed at building capacity across our Early Career Researcher (ECR) and aspirant Chief Investigators (CI) community in the Wessex region.  It is part of the Incubator programme, operating under the auspices of the NIHR Academy.  With funding by the NIHR Academy Research Capacity Development Group to support the administration of the initiative, the research assistant/research fellow will support the initiative to increase the number of ECRs and CIs across the region.   The initiative will help drive the development of locally-led portfolios of high-quality NIHR research, engaging stakeholders to develop mechanisms to support career development at a regional level and promote access to NIHR fellowships across a range of different disciplines and professional groups.

The Wessex Reach initiative will work in partnership with other local NIHR infrastructure and key stakeholders (for example Wessex-based Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and NHS Trusts) to build research leadership capacity across the region.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support the co-Chairs to deliver this programme.  The post holder will assist in managing the programme, setting up and publicising the Initiative through the internet, social media and workshops. They will explore the range of support currently available and collate resources from across a diverse range of stakeholders, and help to develop future work packages in consultation with the Executive Group.

We invite applications from candidates who have a PhD* or equivalent qualifications and experience in research and project management.  You will have excellent interpersonal skills to allow collection of data from, and manage relationships with, a wide range of stakeholders.  Experience of both quantitative and qualitative data analysis is required, including analysing survey data and maximising survey response.

This role is part time, fixed-term until 31/08/2023 starting on 01/09/2021.

For an informal discussion, please email Dr Beth Stuart (bls1@soton.ac.uk) or Emma King (emma.king@uhd.nhs.uk) [Co-Chairs of the Wessex REACH Initiative].

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
