LECTURER / SENIOR LECTURER (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be required to:

  • Teach clinical pharmacology at tertiary level, including principles of clinical trials;
  • Be intimately involved in research in a related field;
  • Act as supervisor for postgraduate students;
  • Be involved with curriculum development/innovation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Lecturer:

  • A pharmacy, medical or alternatively a related scientific degree at MSc level;
  • One years’ teaching experience in Pharmacology, Pharmacy or Clinical Pharmacology;
  • Research experience in pharmacology and at least two accredited publications in ISI journals;
  • Registration with a relevant professional council/body (HPCSA or SAPC).

Senior Lecturer:

  • A pharmacy, medical or alternatively a related scientific degree at PhD level;
  • Three years’ teaching experience in Pharmacology, Pharmacy or Clinical Pharmacology; 
  • Research experience in pharmacology and at least five accredited publications in ISI journals; 
  • Conference papers delivered;
  • At least two postgraduate students supervised to completion, preferably at Masters level or higher;
  • Registration with a relevant professional council/body (HPCSA or SAPC).

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • A strong and proven record of research and postgraduate student supervision in pharmacology;
  • Member of a relevant professional society;
  • Experience in teaching of undergraduate students in the allied health sciences (e.g. Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, Radiography, Oral Hygiene and BCMP);
  • In possession of MSc (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) / MPharmMed degree / FC Clin Pharm / AC Clin Pharm.

The total remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes.
