The Business School seeks an Engagement Manager who will have previous experience and a proven track record of commercial recruitment and/or significant business development experience, ideally within international markets, achieving targets along with the drive and ambition to succeed in a challenging global market.  The Engagement Manager will work in partnership with the other members of the International, Engagement and Career team and the Learning and Teaching team to directly impact the shared projects, objectives and Key Performance Indicators.  This is a very exciting role with the opportunity to make a significant contribution to one of the schools premium programmes within the business and technology space.  

An articulate and persuasive professional is required to build on existing contacts and develop new networks and partnerships nationally and internationally to ensure that our students learning benefits from connection to and perspectives from world of practice and global employment opportunities are developed that result in career opportunities for our students. You will identify and realise new opportunities and target potential new partners as well as building broader strategic partnerships that meet the specific needs of to the Business Schools’ international students and alumni.  

Core responsibilities:

  • Recognised professional practitioner and service specialist.
  • Implement changes to the design and development of service processes, techniques and deliverables for one or more service strands or project streams.
  • Provide specialist expertise and support with complexity of data and information sources, interpretation and analysis.
  • Contribute to development of operational service activities to ensure excellence in the stakeholder experience.
  • Collect and analyse stakeholder feedback to help define needs and requirements and the design and planning of services.
  • Internal and external relationship development and partnership working, networking and participation to engage and influence future services and the University reputation.
  • Identify and design activities to meet learning objectives and outcomes.
  • Deliver training, teaching and/or development delivery for stakeholders.
  • Maintain an awareness of current policy for University business goals such as widening participation and access, and provision of advice using specialist knowledge.
  • Contribute to and lead business meetings, working groups and sub-committees at departmental and operational service levels.
  • Responsible for managing small budgets for consumables and some capital items, keeping records and processing invoices. 

Role responsibilities:

  • Provide management for the operation of a stakeholder focussed service delivery area.
  • Manage and monitor service performance and provide metrics and reports to Service Heads, making recommendations as appropriate.
  • Participate in and monitor communities of practice and partnership working internally and externally.
  • Network and engage with external and internal stakeholders to gather feedback and identify future service needs, to ensure excellence in service provision.
  • Contribute to the development of operational and strategic plans and service level agreements.
  • Prepare and manage the service area budget or budgets and monitor expenditure to ensure cost-effective service delivery. 
  • Produce and analyse statistical service metrics to identify successful delivery and areas for future improvement.
  • Distribute and process key service information to all stakeholders.
  • Plan, implement and monitor continuous service improvements to enhance the delivery of stakeholder services.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using appropriate media and methods.
  • Provide training and/or instruction of stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the delivery of activities that generate external income.
  • Develop, modify and optimise service protocols and methodologies.
  • Deliver support elements of the wider student experience.  
  • Any other reasonable duties.

Person specification - skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience required

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop excellent working relationships both internally and externally. 
  • Proven IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office.
  • Five GCSE’s at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent experience).
  • Post-16 qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional business development/recruitment practitioner with knowledge and expertise used to contribute to the delivery and development of services, events and activities within the organisation.
  • Continuing professional development required to maintain professional recognition.  
  • Experience of implementing policy and procedures and involvement with future changes for a service area.
  • Knowledge and experience of ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines.   
  • Experience of providing specialist advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues, including more senior colleagues.
  • Experience of being able to network effectively and develop strong and productive working relationships, to influence perceptions of the University.
  • Ability to contribute to planning at operational level.
