Laboratory Coordinator for High Throughput Screening Operations

The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research institute focusing on human genomics and personalised medicine at the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki FIMM integrates molecular medicine research, technology centre and biobanking infrastructures under one roof, promoting translational research in grand challenge projects, specifically, the impact of genome information from the Finnish population in personalised health and medicine, individualised cancer medicine, and digital molecular medicine. FIMM is part of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, composed of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the centres for molecular medicine in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and the EU-LIFE Community.

for High Throughput Screening Operations (parental leave substitute).
The High Throughput Biomedicine (HTB) unit of the FIMM Technology Centre performs high throughput bioassays, mainly cell-based drug screening and RNAi experiments. The unit supports research at University of Helsinki and functions as a national and international infrastructure platform for academic researchers. We currently have an opening for a laboratory coordinator to support assay development and day-to-day operations. The primary activities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Scientific laboratory support for ongoing projects
- Method and protocol development
- Managing laboratory automation and high throughput screening equipment
- Maintenance of laboratory and equipment
The laboratory coordinator will work independently as well as closely with HTB researchers and staff. The tasks include streamlining of internal processes such as ordering, managing inventories, experimental work, developing standard operating protocols and data management.
Qualification and experience:
Candidates should have master’s degree or equivalent in biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, biomedical laboratory science, engineering, or a related discipline including proven experience with at least: handling of clinical samples, flow-cytometry, cell culture, biochemical, molecular, or cellular techniques, assay development, microscopy, laboratory automation, and high-throughput screening. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills, and is able to work systematically. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English, have good interpersonal and communication skills, a service-minded attitude, and be able to work independently as well as within a team.
Salary & contract:
The salary will commensurate with qualifications based on the university salary system. A contract will be offered initially until the current holder of the position returns from parental leave (est. Jan 2023). Extension beyond this is possible depending on the availability of funding.
