Full-Time, Permanent

The Information Security Group (ISG) at Royal Holloway is looking to appoint an academic to support its research and teaching.

The ISG was founded in 1990 and carries out outstanding research, and delivers excellent teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, with particularly high numbers of Master’s students. We are recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research and have hosted a series of Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) relating to cyber security, contributing to a large and vibrant PhD community

We are involved in multiple inter/multidisciplinary research activities, spanning technology to psychology and social sciences. Recently, Royal Holloway launched a research catalyst for “Transformative Digital Technologies, Security and Society”, which has information/cyber security as a core pillar and which we aim to contribute to. Our research strength also generates significant interest and collaborative opportunity from universities and third stream partners.

We are now recruiting academic members of staff who can complement or strengthen our existing research and teaching. We are particularly interested in applicants with security expertise on the technology boundaries of computer science, and engineering, but also with strong enthusiasm for broader multidisciplinary research for positive real-world impact.

The successful candidate will help us seek and seize opportunities for research funding and industrial engagement. She/he will hold a PhD or equivalent, and will have a proven research record. Experience in attracting funding, engaging with industry, or contributing to outreach activities would also be valuable.

The appointee will be expected to contribute across the full range of departmental activities, including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and the supervision of mainstream cyber security projects over a wide range of topics. In particular, there is an expectation to be able to teach network, computer, software and device security, as required in support of the ISG PGT and Computer Science UG programmes and supporting our year in industry programme. General academic duties and responsibilities of this post include: conducting individual or collaborative research projects; producing high-quality outputs for publication in high-profile journals or conference proceedings; and applying for research funding

This is a full-time and permanent (tenured) post, available from September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is based in Egham, Surrey, within commuting distance from London, Europe’s most dynamic technology hub.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Prof. Keith Mayes on keith.mayes@rhul.ac.uk.
