Job description
The post-holder will join the School of Cardiovascular Medicine and Sciences as a Clinical Senior Lecturer and the King’s Health Partners (King’s College Hospital and Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts) Cardiovascular unit as an Honorary Consultant.  
The post holder will be an outstanding clinical academic cardiologist with an excellent training and track record both in clinical cardiology, education and research. The post holder will be expected to:

  • Undertake clinical duties in cardiology, with specialist interest in heart failure, across the KHP sites. They will contribute to inpatient and outpatient work and the general cardiology Consultant-of-the-week rota, and other clinical duties as agreed with the Clinical Director (total clinical commitment approximately 50% of time). 
  • Take a lead role in the organisation and delivery of the Masters programme in Cardiovascular Sciences that is hosted by the School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences 
  • Pursue a high-quality research programme relevant to translational Cardiovascular Sciences with a focus on heart failure. 
  • Maintain a good publication record from research suitable for the Research Excellence Framework 
  • Secure independent peer-reviewed research grant funding. 
  • Supervise PhD students, MD students and/or post-doctoral researchers. 
  • Contribute to the development of the KHP Cardiovascular Institute. 
  • Participate in undergraduate medical student teaching and teaching or training in other relevant areas.
  • Encourage the development of early career academic cardiovascular physicians. 

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract  
This is a full-time  post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver a programme of high quality research into heart Failure  
  • Lead the intercalated BSc in Cardiovascular Sciences 
  • Teach undergraduate medical students 
  • Use 50% of their time for consultant level clinical duties at both St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospitals 
  • Attract external funding for research 

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.  
Skills, knowledge, and experience 

Essential criteria 

  1. MBBS 
  2. MD or PHD 
  3. CCT Cardiovascular medicine 
  4. Comprehensive training in heart failure 
  5. Strong background in pathophysiology of heart failure, with strong track record of clinical/translational research that combines inter-disciplinary elements (e.g. clinical + imaging + basic science) 
  6. Experience of medical student/bioscience student education 
  7. Experience of designing educational courses (e.g. Masters or intercalated programme) 
  8. Strong track record of peer-reviewed research funding 
  9. Have an established funded programme of translational research in heart failure 
  10. Strong track record of first and senior publications in high impact journals
