The School of Psychology at the University of Southampton is seeking to make a number of strategic appointments (≈4 full-time equivalent) to support education and research across our Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClin), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy programmes, and MSc Foundations in Clinical Psychology. This post relates to the position of Associate Professor/Principal Teaching Fellow.

We also welcome applications from colleagues who are not clinically qualified but who have a track record in mental health research and education. 

You will be part of an innovative and dynamic clinical psychology /CBT team and contribute to postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and supervision. 

The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Programme and CBT teams at the University of Southampton are committed to the scientist-practitioner model, are firmly rooted in the core values of the NHS Constitution and have over 30 years' experience in clinical training in partnership with our local NHS Trusts and related organisations. Two different employment pathways are available: education-led or balanced across research and education.  Clinical psychologists/CBT therapists with expertise in teaching clinical skills and the aspiration to develop their research can apply to work on an education pathway. This will provide an opportunity to build a research portfolio that complements current research activity in the school. Alternatively, applicants with a growing national/international research track record, evidenced by publications/grant applications, can apply to work on a balanced pathway.

Our School has expertise in developmental and applied psychopathology, psychological interventions across the lifespan and affective neuroscience. The School of Psychology at Southampton is recognised for producing world-leading, high-impact research, supported by excellent research facilities (REF2014). These include purpose-built laboratories for neuropsychological/cognitive testing, social interaction and behavioural observation, therapeutic intervention, child/family studies, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG), neurostimulation (TMS/tDCS), psychophysiology, eye-tracking, virtual reality, and psychopharmacology. 

Our School is one of the largest providers of postgraduate research and clinical training in the UK, offering a range of MSc programmes (Clinical, Health, Research Methods), research doctorates (PhD), Doctoral Programmes in Clinical Psychology (DClin) and Educational Psychology (DEdPsy), and training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). 

We enjoy long-standing collaborations with University research groups in Medicine (Psychiatry, Primary Care), Biological Sciences (Neuroscience), Health Sciences and Education.
