Full-Time, Fixed Term - 48 Months

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in the GeoHumanities in the Department of Geography, Royal Holloway University of London, to start from 1^st September 2021. This fixed-term 48-month post is funded through teaching replacement support from the European Research Council.

The successful applicant will join a Department with an outstanding reputation for research excellence (ranked 2^nd in REF2014 in the Geography, Environmental Studies and Archaeology sub-panel) and for its teaching and student support (NSS 96% overall satisfaction in 2020). They will be dynamic and enthusiastic with the ability to inform and inspire students, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will engage with and extend the work of the Royal Holloway Centre for the GeoHumanities, directed from the Department. Applications are especially welcome that develop the Centre’s expertise in one or more of the following areas: GeoHumanities scholarship in the Global South; Environmental GeoHumanities; Digital GeoHumanities; Creative GeoHumanities; Mobility Humanities. The Department has a strong community ethos, and mentoring and further training will be available. In 2018 the Department was awarded the Athena SWAN Silver Award from the Equality Challenge Unit, recognising exceptional commitment and excellence in the advancement of gender equality.

Applicants should demonstrate appropriate expertise related to the potential teaching areas of the post. The appointee will make a teaching contribution at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including: Human Geography first-year tutorials; Human Geography fieldcourse teaching; second-year undergraduate teaching in Political Geography (half a full-unit course); a third-year undergraduate half-unit option course; a teaching contribution to the MSc in Global Futures; dissertation advising and personal tutoring at UG and PGT levels. Royal Holloway will be delivering a ‘flexible education’ programme in 2021-2022, blending on campus and online teaching.
