About This Opportunity

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced academic to join The University of Queensland in the role of Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor – Mechatronics within the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

As a Senior Lecturer (Academic Level C), you will focus your efforts on leveraging your established record of achievement in teaching ((including clinical teaching, where appropriate), research and service and engagement. At this level the incumbent may coordinate or lead the activities of other staff and is expected to have an active and effective record of supervising Higher Degree by Research students successfully to completion as principal supervisor.

As an Associate Professor (Academic Level D), you will consistently demonstrate excellence in teaching (including clinical teaching, where appropriate), research and service and engagement. At this level, the incumbent expected to undertake leadership roles and have a strong record of supervising Higher Degree by Research students successfully to completion as principal supervisor.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

For US applicants, please note that Australian Universities use British terminology, as such a Lecturer position is equivalent to that of a non-tenured Assistant Professor position in the US.

Our Ideal Candidate

In addition to the completion of a PhD in a relevant discipline area, the successful appointee must have:

Academic Level C:

  • An established profile in teaching and research in the areas of mechatronics, robotics, automation, or control.
  • National recognition in the area of expertise, with an international developing profile and an established record of publications in reputed refereed journal and presenting at conferences
  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups
  • A strong track record of course coordination and participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.

In addition to the above, a Level D academic will demonstrate:

  • International recognition in the area of expertise and an excellent record of publications in reputed refereed journal and presenting at conferences
  • Ability to successfully lead a research team, with an excellent record of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing significant external research funding from institutional and commercial sources
  • A strong record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with evidence of leadership in external activities.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at Academic Level C or D:

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level C will be in the range AUD$121,939 - $140,603, plus super of up to 17%. The total package will be in the range AUD$142,668 - $164,505.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level D will be in the range AUD$146,824 - $161,756, plus super of up to 17%. The total package will be in the range AUD$171,784 - $189,254.
