About the Role
This role ensures the provision of a full service, professional manufacturing capability to staff and students across the University. The role holder manages the full capability and operation of the manufacturing workshop and has direct line management of all workshop personnel. The role holder is also expected to provide professional manufacturing advice to staff and students engaged in Research, PhD or MSc projects. The advice will provide a guide to good design, best practice, and cost effectiveness of the requested items.
The post holder will be expected to drive the performance of the workshop staff and Quality, cost, and delivery will be key process Indicators for the management of workshop performance.
As part of our commitment to support and develop Technical staff across the University, we have now also become a founding signatory of the Science Council's Technician Commitment. This is a sector wide, collaborative initiative led by the Science Council and supported by the 'Technicians Make It Happen' campaign, to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research.
About You
You will have a minimum of HNC in Engineering along with significant manufacturing experience. An Engineering degree is desirable.
You will be comfortable in a manufacturing environment and possess extensive experience of manufacturing processes. Ideally have expert knowledge and experience in both manual machining and CNC manufacturing skillsets.
You will also have proven previous experience of supervising staff in a busy workshop environment.
The successful applicant will play an important part in supporting world leading research and education in a supportive team and environment.
