Pro Vice-Chancellor/Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Oxford Brookes University is one of the UK’s leading modern higher education institutions. In a city steeped in learning, our Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offers an ambitious and dynamic combination of full-time and part-time programmes attracting over 5,000 students. Excellent research-led teaching and outstanding support is offered across undergraduate and postgraduate study in five departments: English and Modern Languages; Social Sciences; Education; History, Philosophy and Culture; and Law. In addition, the Faculty’s Institute of Public Care provides applied research and services helping NHS trusts, government bodies, councils, charities and commercial organisations make a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing.

Our NSS and PTES scores across the Faculty are impressive and testify to our ambition and commitment to offer an exciting, innovative and relevant, sector-leading student experience. The Faculty similarly boasts an impressive track-record in research excellence.

The new PVC/Dean will have an exceptional platform from which to further advance the Faculty’s reputation for teaching excellence and internationally-recognised research, alongside a burgeoning external profile. The successful candidate will combine significant academic achievement in teaching and research in a relevant discipline with a track record of effective leadership and management. As a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Group, the PVC/Dean will work with academic and professional services colleagues to ensure that the University’s strategic goals are delivered. In providing strategic leadership for the Faculty as well as taking responsibility for specific aspects of the University’s corporate strategy and activity, s/he will also be an outstanding communicator, able to be an influential and authoritative voice for the University externally and showcase the Faculty’s outstanding research and teaching.
