TD School (Transdisciplinary Innovation) is looking for an outstanding candidate to join the School as an Associate Professor. As a senior member the appointee will contribute widely to learning and teaching, research and engagement activities, collaborating across the School and wider university, and with our industry partners.

TD School is an independent academic entity within UTS with a pan university role, in addition to its regular teaching and research programs.Complex problem solving and innovation is at the heart of what we do. TD School is the home of the internationally acclaimed Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation degree and the central hub of transdisciplinary studies at UTS in Sydney. It will soon be responsible for delivering a new mandated TD electives program across UTS, to be rolled out from 2022. It is also the central clearing house for transdisciplinary research collaboration across UTS, through the TD Industry Research CoLab. TD School currently works with more than 500 active industry partners.

About the role

The role of Associate Professor is a new position, reporting to the Head of TD School. The role offers a unique opportunity to lead the design and development of innovative educational experiences, contributing to transdisciplinary research and engaging with industry.

Reporting to the Head of TD School in this new position, the appointee will contribute widely to TD learning and teaching, research and engagement activities in TD School, collaborating across the School and wider university.

The appointee will also play an important role collaborating with the Director of Research on the delivery of the School’s research agenda and building TD research capacity both within the School and across the university. Applicants with a research track record in transdisciplinary research methods would be welcomed.

Role requirements include:

  • Undertaking a negotiated range of learning and teaching duties and course co-ordination along with the research supervision of students (undergraduate and postgraduate) in the School
  • Supporting and/or leading in the development of new subjects and participate in course development at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in line with the UTS Model of Learning and Learning.Futures
  • Engaging actively in innovative teaching and learning, integrating research into teaching, in line with Learning.Futures and the UTS Model of Learning

About you:

  • PhD or equivalent qualifications
  • Demonstrated capacity in leading educational development, with strong higher education teaching achievements and demonstrated capabilities in developing innovative experiences in transdisciplinary learning
  • Demonstrated research capacity as evidenced by high-quality outputs (publications in quality and top-ranked books, journals and conference proceedings or equivalents) at the level expected of an Associate Professor
  • Experience in teaching one or more of the following areas: TD practices and method, complexity, sustainability, ecosystems and networks, frame creation, technology and innovation, and futures
  • Willingness to take on academic management responsibilities as required

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $158,543 - $173,799 (Level D)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing (permanent) basis.
