Applications are invited for appointment as Scientific Officer (holding the title of Research Director) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 504249), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Engineering or a closely related field, with at least 5 years of relevant work experience. They should have excellent project management skills; the ability to work both independently and in a team; a strong sense of responsibility and self-motivation; fluency in written and spoken English and Chinese; and good coordination, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in management and development of large-scale research projects and/or in commercialization of technologies is highly preferred. 

The appointee will work in a newly established research centre on the development of advanced biomedical instrumentation. He/She will play a key role in supporting the research administration and management of the centre and work closely with internal and external stakeholders; coordinate multiple research projects in collaboration with different parties; prepare documents such as project plans and reports; work on research development and commercialization initiatives; and perform other duties as assigned. He/She may be required to work outside normal office hours and on weekends. Working off-campus may be required occasionally.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
