Background
The Holsworth Research Initiative aims to optimise outcomes for all individuals by addressing the global challenges of inactivity and chronic disease. Using multi-disciplinary approaches, the initiative tackles important questions to influence health policy and practice in regional locations, Australia and internationally.
Caseload midwifery (where women have continuity from a ‘known’ midwife during pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum) is associated with improved clinical and psychosocial outcomes at least in low-risk populations.
We have a PhD project that is embedded in an MRFF funded randomised controlled trial designed to compare the effect of caseload midwifery on preterm birth, low birthweight, other maternal and neonatal outcomes in vulnerable women (MAGNOLIA). This PhD will explore the hypothesis that caseload midwifery influences the acute and chronic physiological responsiveness to stress.
We are seeking a student who has completed a Masters or Honours degree in a related field (e.g., medicine, psychology, exercise sciences, nursing).
