Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT)

Under broad direction the Course Quality and Development Officer supports the Colleges in topic and course changes and discontinuations, reviews and evaluations and professional accreditation. includes facilitating the review process, compiling appropriate information and data sets and working with the college to identify areas of improvement and excellence. It also assist in identifying actions and coordinating required services to support continual improvement.

It provides expert advice in relation to the implications of course structure changes and assist colleges in ensuring changes to courses are to the benefit of students.

Key Position Responsibilities

The  Course Quality and Development Officer is accountable for:

  • Providing services and advice for topic and adhoc, and 5 yearly course reviews and course accreditation processes, including administering the provision and storage of data and record keeping of outcomes.  
  • Identifying and compiling relevant student experience and course/topic related data to enable effective reflection and identification of improvement opportunities within the colleges.
  • Effectively assisting and facilitating the process of new course/topic approval, changes to topics/courses and topic/course discontinuation that is in accordance with University policies and procedures.
  • Providing expert advice on course structures for course changes and discontinuations to ensure positive student outcomes.
  • Providing advice on the requirements related to third party agreements and articulation arrangements.
  • Assisting in developing an action plan and changes to processes or systems to respond to areas of improvement and feedback to students and where appropriate facilitating the connection to other support areas.
  • Working closely with  Student Administration Services to ensure consistency and accuracy of topic and course changes in the student information system.
  • Maintaining a data base of course reviews and outcomes including recommendations.
  • Other responsibilities in line with the level of the role may be assigned by the PVC(Learning, Teaching and Innovation) and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of a relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Knowledge of relevant higher education legislative requirements, standards and trends and ability to translate these to actions.
  • Well developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required to consult, coordinate and work effectively with a wide variety of people  and prepare correspondence, briefs and other documents.
  • Experience in evaluation and/or course review processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to compile and produce reports including a full range of data.
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in managing quality processes, interpret and apply a range of relevant policies and procedures and the ability to make recommendations for improvement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the implications resulting from changes to topics and courses including course structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively, exercise judgement and utilise well developed analytical skills.
  • Significant problem solving skills, with recognition of when to seek advice from supervisors.
