Nanofabrication of hybrid RRAM/CMOS platforms for unconventional computing
The Centre for Electronics Frontiers at the University of Southampton is accepting applications for an experienced Senior Research Fellow. The position will be based at the Highfield Campus and will commence as soon as possible for a fixed-term contract of 2 years due to funding restrictions.
You will be part of a large interdisciplinary team lead by Professor Themis Prodromakis and will be affiliated with the EPSRC-funded FORTE (www.forte.ac.uk) programme grant. Our vision is to integrate state-of-the art memristive/resistive random-access memory (RRAM) devices with conventional complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) architectures and circuits, in order to facilitate emerging novel technologies for unconventional computing.
You will be involved in the use of our state-of-the-art nanofabrication facilities for developing novel oxide-based nanoelectronic devices and arrays and integrating these with commercially available CMOS technologies, collaboratively with foundries. You will join our highly visible group of researchers in related projects and will be required to coordinate activities among academic and industrial partners. In addition you will interact closely with PhD students for developing novel oxide-based devices with particular emphasis in optimizing their architecture and thin-film processes for enhancing technology yield and their performance metrics, as well as other Research Fellows that will be responsible for exploiting the technology in real-world applications.
It is essential you hold a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in one of Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering or a closely related subject area. You will also have a strong background in one or more of the following areas relating to this post:
- Thin Film Oxide electronics and Semiconductor Devices
- Micro-nano fabrication processes in a clean-room environment (lithography, etching, thermal evaporation, etc.)
- Growth techniques of oxide thin films (physical vapour deposition (PVD) or chemical vapour deposition (CVD))
- Electrical Characterisation of Semiconductor and Thin Film Devices.
Skills in electron beam lithography and/or in specific analytical characterisation techniques (such as XPS, EDS or AFM) especially within the context of thin film oxides and RRAM would be desirable. Although previous familiarity with RRAM is not necessary it would be advantageous towards a successful application.
There will be some travel involved both within the United Kingdom and abroad to conduct research, visit collaborators, and attend conferences.
