Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Ref.: 504122) to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject satisfactory performance.

AlphaHKU at in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a multidisciplinary research group with the major focus on developing new photonic tools which help solve a myriad of critical problems in biomedicine, life science and basic physics.  One key vision is to exploit new-generation tools for image-based cell/tissue characterization and bioinformatic strategies applied in basic science and biomedicine for high-throughput and high-content single-cell or multi-omics analysis, with close collaboration with biomedical researchers as well as medical practitioners in hospitals.

Our group is currently recruiting one Post-doctoral Fellow for the research projects related to any one of the following areas:

  • Ultrahigh-throughput “intelligent” optical microscopy (e.g. multi photon, and light-sheet fluorescence microscopy) from single-cell to tissue level;
  • Development of new microfluidic cell-based bioassays (microfluidic cell-sorter for single-cell analysis).

Highly motivated applicants with a recent Ph.D. or an equivalent degree from a biomedical engineering, electrical/optical engineering, and analytical chemistry background with experiences in optical microscope hardware development, microfluidics, advanced fluorescence imaging techniques, are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful appointee will join an interdisciplinary and collaborative team working with biologists, engineers, clinicians and industrial partners to develop next generation tools of image-based assay applied in life-science research (single-cell multi-comics research) as well as clinical diagnosis (e.g. cancer screening).

Enquiries about the duties of the post should be sent to Prof. Kevin Tsia at tsia@hku.hk.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
