The Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a full time fixed-term dietitian to undertake research as part of a project funded by the European Commission. The project involves assessing the impact of traditional dietary advice compared with more personalised internet-based advice on weight loss in overweight and obese individuals.

The successful candidate will be a Registered Dietitian with a PhD* or with equivalent research experience in weight loss trials or in nutrition intervention trials. Applicants should have a full understanding and knowledge of dietary assessment tools, evidence-based dietary advice and body composition assessment. Knowledge of internet-based applications for health improvement and of using Tanita bioelectric impedance apparatus is desirable. The ability to work efficiently and effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment are central to the role.

The School of Human Development and Health (HDH) is part of the Faculty of Medicine and is located at University Hospital Southampton (Southampton General Hospital) site. The appointee will be situated within the Nutrition, endocrinology and metabolism group and benefit from close interaction with colleagues within the Southampton NIHR BRC and University Hospital Southampton as well as additional study specific internal and external collaborators.

This is a full-time fixed term post until 30/4/2022.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
